Ok folks,
Let's start a threas about PA's late season flintlock season.
I'm in NY but am planning on buying a license so I can go. This is my first year going flint and made it a goal to get a deer. I should've had it in my hand this past weekend when I had a doe at 15 yards. Instead, I had my .54 White Mountain Carbine caplock which was nice too I guess...but now it's time to make some sparks !!!!
So....let's hear it all...where to go, what tactics to use etc, and some photos from past PA late season hunts....good luck to all!

If you're over in Chautauqua Co. you're only a stone throw from ANF. Also, depending on type of terrain you like to hunt there are a whole bunch of Pa. State Game Lands to choose from right handy to you. SGL 154 comes to mind, right on State Line Rd.
Hope this can help you some, if not, ask more specifically and I'll try to help some more.

Pennsylvania has a lot of game lands to hunt on. Check out Pa Game Commision on line at: (WWW.pgc.state.pa.us). This site has all the game lands listed. You will have access to thousands of acres to hunt on, also national forest lands. Good luck and enjoy your hunt in Pa.

I've been on 154 before and a couple others near Clymer, NY. I bowhunted there a few times 2 years ago and had a shot at a doe every time but no permits. What is ANF?

Allegheny National Forest. The Forest covers spots in Warren, Elk, Mc Kean and Forest Counties. Warren County probably being closest to you. Unlilimted camping oportunities with a few regulations. Great place to hunt and camp.
Check out the web-site here

I've always thought about hunting the KQDC. How's that compare with the rest of the park now that they're over 5 years into the management plan?

I can't give you any specific data, such as the PGC or wildlife biologists collect, as I've never done any follow-up on such data.
I hunted down there the first two years of that deer management program. This is only my opinion of the deer herd now, after a few years of that special program. I believe from my observations that the deer herd has been hit pretty hard. Perhaps to the point of over harvesting.
We've done alot of camping over the years in the ANF, by canoe in the spring, summer and fall and in the winter hauling our gear in on toboggins. So my estimates are only what I have seen first hand. Probably not to scientific but it's all I can go by. There are still deer down there but ya might have to work at your hunt a bit harder. But like so many folks say " It's about the hunting, not the getting. " I couldn't agree more with that phylosophy. The ANF is a grand place to visit and hunt.
Most of my time spent down to ANF is around or very near the Reservoir itself. So it would be difficult for me to comment on the other areas of the Allegheny National Forest.
