Hello folks, I am looking for information/opinions of the best way to get my hands a true PA long rifle, Do I need to go custom or is there a company that makes a nice flinter. I want a Lancaster or Bucks County style. I want a working gun, Ie hunting and shooting. I want a 54 cal., and not looking to break the bank.

My current flinters is a Lyman GPR (54 cal), and Investa Arms Hawken (50 cal) style.

Thanks and stay safe

Nothing wrong with Cabin Creek. You might also check with Jim Chambers for a PA style kit. If you aren't wanting to build it yourself...He can connect you with someone to build it for you.

I'm on agreement here concerning Jim Chambers.
His kits are just excellent and if you don't care to build, he'll recommend a few people who can help.

Are you looking for a rifle to build yourself or that's already built? There are several makers out there who make good ones that range from really good copies of existing originals to relatively decent amalgamations of several PA-styled rifles (that don't reflect a specific one). It all depends on what you want out of the box and how much you want to spend.

Chambers has some good ones that are pretty close to some originals. Tennessee Valley Manufacturing (and the closely named Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading) both have decent and popular variations. Kibler has a really good "general" PA style (the Colonial). Those are just a few. There are many more. If you have a few more preferences you can add, we can point you in a more specific direction.

"Nice" covers a lot of ground. As does "not looking to break the bank". Budget? Parts for most kits are about $900-$1000 with postage and barrel inletting before doing the work or paying someone to do it. Do you want a kit or a ready to use rifle? Full dress flinter or well-built plain-Jane. A used gun will get you more bang for your buck. Track of the Wolf, Log Cabin shop, and others sell them plus private individuals.

wow lots of information thanks. I want a completed rifle. 1k is the limit to my budget. Not against to buying clean used rifle. I f am looking for info and love the PA style rifles.

Thanks Again

Pedersoli indeed makes good rifles. Also, keep your eyes peeled on the classifieds here (and if it's ok to mention another forum... the American Longrifle forum). Good used ones come up now and then at $1k. That would be my vote.
