Nice little pack hatchet with sheath for sale. The blade was made from an antique sawmill blade. The blade was oil quenched and triple tempered. The cutting edge is approx. 2 1/4" and is approx. 5/32" thick. Overall length is approx. 9 3/4". The blade has been mildly aged. The handle is made from Myrtlewood which I picked up on the Oregon coast. It is secured with 3/16" brass pins and epoxy. Has 10 coats of Tru-Oil. Has brass lanyard eye with bead adjusted lanyard. Comes with a vegetable tanned cowhide sheath with a bead to tighten sheath. Asking $165.00 with free shipping. Prefer PayPal or USPS money order for payment. PM for more info.

I love the stories behind the hand-made crafts offered here. Do you know the location or history of the sawmill for the blade? You're in CA, so was it local, or acquired from somewhere else, like the handle from Oregon? So many of the historic structures and tools are being sold or discarded by inheritors that don't know the historical significance of the objects, so that history is lost.

Brazos John, Back in my construction days I had a branch office in Crescent City, CA. I got the blade from one of my clients there. At one time there was numerous Redwood mills there. At that time is when I picked up a supply of Myrtlewood as Crescent City is close to the Oregon border.(Cali-Oregon coast) This was during the time when Pelican Bay Prison was being built. Lots of interesting history in that area. Jed Smith Redwood Park, Redwood lumber industry, psunami, Native American history and culture, etc..
