At what distances are you shooting your .50 cal Rifles? 50, 75, 100, 150, 200 yards?

Just for paper punching, not for hunting.

Our rifle club has 25, 50, and 100 yard available on our range. We use all three. Longer distances are probably used less.

I like to shoot anywhere from 25 to 100yds :hmm: If I could stretch the range out a touch further I'd shoot that too. :v

The distances really depends on what you are trying to do at the time. At the BP League I belong to we shoot smoothies at 25 yds. after we're done shooting pistols / revolvers. Then it's rifles and smoothbores off-hand at 50 yds. with 5 shots for score. We then move back to 100 yds.(max at our range) and shoot ten more for score (rifles only). During a League novelty shoot all bets are off! Last year 6 out of 10 shooters cut a playing card in half at a distance of 20 yds. using rifles (PRB and Maxi's/Minnies are all good) :shocked2: . For November we did pumpkins, cd's, playing cards, small floppy disks, strings and clay birds all at 25 yds. and everyone at all skill levels had a great time :haha: . Even won a turkey that day by shooting at a paper pistol target that had been reversed so that you could't see the scoreing rings...I nailed the ten-ring :) . Maybe one of these days I'll travel to a range that has a 300 yd. berm (but I'll have to look thru the spotting scope just to see the target frame :shake: ). All the best, Dave

I pretty much live at the 50 yard range, doing most of my shooting there. With 75 yard targets being my max range now.

Anywhere from 10 to 300 yards. Most often 25 50 100 longer ranges is usually at gongs or silloutes. Novelties are mostly 25 and under as error is less.
Fox :hatsoff:

I shoot my .50 CVA off the bench several times at 50 yds, then 75 with my sights set as 50 to practice a little 'kentucky elevation'. then off hand at 50 awhile. I consider 75 yards with me propped against some kind of steady to be max. range deer hunting. and never have shot at that distance yet.

All my rifle & rifle-musket shooting is done at 100yds/meters (depending on location), my smoothbore is at 50yds/m, & pistol/revolver is at 25yds/m.

After bench sighted I shoot offhand at 7" paper plates and 8" steel swings. I have my own range and shoot 50-75 yards most of the time--standing offhand. I also practice field postion rested holds such as tree rested, kneeling, sitting etc. out to 100 yards. I don't shoot at deer beyond 100 yards or so with roundballs but I am plently accurate out to 150 with open sights, calm conditions and a solid rest.

I use 60 grains 2f out to 75 and bump it up to 80-90 grains for 100 yard practice in 50 cals.

Generally I like to shoot at 60 to 65 yards because of the range I use. Once in awhile out to 100 yards. One range I go to periodically is set at 117 yards not 100, don't know why the odd yardage but it is fun too.

50 yards is as far away as you can get at my range, so that's where I usually shoot. I initially sight in for point of aim at 12.5 yards, then adjust so a 6 o'clock hold centers a 5.5" shoot'n see at 50. I believe that puts me back at point of aim at 85 yards, but haven't been able to test that assumption. :(

nearly all of my shooting is at 50 yards, because that is what i try to so on squerrils when i can. Just far enough to make it hard, close enough to make the lead count most of the time.
oh and 200 to see how much a rb drops, and boy does it ever :(

With my ML I usely shoot at 40/ and 75 off the deck. these are at old goex tins hanging from a string. At hte range I am shooting at 50/75 and 100 yards at paper and an old hub cap at 100. Regards Fisher KIng.

Rob,
I shoot at 50yards because that is preaty
much what I limit my deer shots to. Mainly
because the terain I hunt does not allow for much
further shots.But that's just me.
snake-eyes:hmm:

We have a 200 yard line at my range but I do almost all of my shooting with the .50 cal at 50 yards. If I had younger eyes I might do a little more shooting at 100 yards.

So far, just 40 yards with my flinter. I'm still working on filing the front sight down so that I can get a normal sight picture and really check my accuracy. I installed a german silver replacement sight rather than filing on the original. It's softer and easier to work with - have it about 1/2 the way down so far.

My club has everything from 7 yds to 200 yards, but I'll be staying within 100 with my front loaders, and I'll be pretty happy to get 6" groups of 3 at 100 from the bench. I'd like to get that at 50 off hand.

Heck, I'm still working on keeping the flint sparking - stopped sparking hot after about 30 shots which I guess is pretty normal.

I'd say 50 yards is my average distance. I do shoot at longer ranges but get tired of walking to the 300 yard line.
