With all the talk of combustible envelope paper cartridges for revolvers (I call them “papes” for short), I decided to roll a batch after not doing it for a while. Normally I load on the gun but the papes are handy at the range especially when you have a time limit where if you go over it you have to pay another range fee. They’re also handy for field use if you aren’t to rough with them and make sure to store them in a waterproof container. Here they are:

I use jumbo style hair curling papers with one corner cut. I made a little mandrel out of a half inch dowel and roll the paper on it, using a glue stick to seal up the ends. I like this design because the back of the cartridge is just one layer of flat paper so the cap bursts through it very easily. I am experimenting with dropping soy wax flakes atop the powder charge and behind the round ball. Soy wax has a lower melting temp than beeswax but shouldn’t melt at room temperatures to contaminate the powder.

I’ll be checking for fouling control and groupings with these cartridges next weekend. Of course my little Remy had to make an appearance in the photograph. :) Holster buy Doves and Dandy’s Westernwear and the box of cartridges is a prop I bought off Etsy. If you haven’t tried out the papes yet, they’re pretty fun to make an even funner to shoot!

Thanks gang!
