Parts for a Virginia / parts questions

I am gathering parts for another build. I have a very nice cherry precarve with a Getz "D" weight 50cal barrel. After looking at whatever pictures I can find, I just cannot seem to find the right trigger guard or side plate. I found a few sources listing them as Virginia, but to me they look allot closer to a Lancaster.

Do we have a "go to guy" for Virginias that can point me in the right direction for the brass parts?

I am thinking of going with Siler's version of the L&R Queen Anne lock for this project

It also seem that almost every one I seen the lock and barrel are in the white, it this correct as well, or more preferance

"Virginia" is a pretty wide area.Can you narrow it down a little.Time frame would help out also.

Reeves Goehring has the correct parts cast directly from Virginia guns.
Bud Siler hasn't made locks in quite some time.

High Bob- i would suggest that you look at the books and take thick sheet stock brass and make your own with a hacksaw and files and elbow grease you can do it. in 1969 i made my first rifle from scratch except for the Douglas Barrel which was $29.00 brand new, it just about broke me- I was making $1.65 an hour, hell I am just about back to that now. But I made the butt plate, trigger guard all thimbles and used a old DIXIE LOCK that was $12.00. I had 1 1/4inch chisle and 2 worn out files a man gave me, I carved it and made a patch box, but 40 years later it looks like a period 18th century rifle and at the shows I carry it to most all there want to buy it. So make all you can, that is the way the old boys did it- have fun TGP

From pictures I have seen I am thinking it would be 1750s-1760s.

Reeves Gorings #10 buttplate and trigger guard are the only ones I know of that come close to that.They are from a Shenandoah rifle a little later than that period but would work.The hardware is almost indenticle to this hardware on a 1760 rifle.

Would that be like a "Haymaker"? I like that that one as well. I can also see alot of similarities in it with the stock I have.

The rifle I pictured is unattributed.The hardware from Reeves would work for the Haymaker.It's as close as you will find I would think.Reeves triggerguard is rounded on the front but can easily be modified.How wide is your buttstock.Reeves buttplate is 2" wide

It is 1-3/4" x 5-3/8 tall

Reeves will work with a little fileing.Reeves also has a trigger guard called Wallace Guslers Virginia.It would work for the Haymaker also.

Check Jim Chamber's website. www.flintlocks.com. You can buy the brass seperate from the kits and you can't do any better than his Virginia or Early English locks.

Dixons doesn't have any Chambers castings but does carry his locks.I would call Chambers direct,they are great to deal with.

I belive that the reason that Chambers doesn't sell the Virgina brass alone has to do with an agreement with Mark Silver who designed the prototypes.At least that was what i've been told.
