just got a used T/C renegade in 50 cal. i couldnt pass up the oppurtunity!!! anyhow i am more addicted to my hawkens looks and was thinking about Zonies gun i saw on here a while back. does anyone offer replacement stocks for these guns. there is nothing wrong with this one that a good refinishing wont cure, and who knows that may be what is coming anyway. but it would be nice to have a pretty custom stock. also, i thought i saw somewhere where someone had other caliber barrels for these. i kinda think a shotgun, or say a 36 or 32 cal would be neat. am i barking up the wrong tree. i am on a pretty tight budget, but i dream of making one of these guns a real LOOKER!!!

as well as a shooter.

any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.

Well...responding honestly to this may be risky, and may be why others have not yet responded, so take this response in purely an objective manner.

Given that a muzzleloader is basically three parts...lock, stock, and barrel...I'm puzzled that you just bought a TC Renegade but are immediately considering replacing the stock on it to make it look prettier.

The Renegade by design is intended as a somewhat of a straight forward looking no frills muzzleloader...just surprised at the investment but then the immediate interest in replacing the stock...a stock assembly is a large part of the cost of a muzzleloader.

The GM (Green Mountain) barrel company makes 1" "drop-in" barrels in a variety of calibers and gauges for the Renegade and large size Hawken stocks.

I'm inclined to agree with Roundball, but if you have your heart set on a new stock, try Pecatonica- they're really good folks, and they have a fantastic product.

IMO th Renegade is actually more attractive than the Hawken. Here's my .58. Replacing the stock is not for a novice.

guys, guys, guys,

dont get the wrong ideas here. i am not wanting to butcher this find. i have restoring probably 20 maybe 30 or more cartridge shotguns, and 22 rifles over last few years. i mean refinish the wood, repair or reblue, fix all misfunctioning internals and maybe slick up the actions a bit. among the most drastic changes have been replacing a hard to find destroyed stock with a common one from a marlin. otther than that, i have done some stipling and checkering , and dabbled in tiger stripping a couple.

i feel i got a pretty good deal on this one because she was not treated with much love. i want to give her the love she needs. i have always admired the full stock guns and was thinking this renegade would be a great start for a really nice full stock gun that had T/C components in it. the desire to have a smaller caliber comes from small game hunting. i have a 32 cva squirrel rifle, but was interested in maybe a more full size small game gun.

i weld and fabricate for a living now, i have co owned a fab shop that built heavy duty woodworking machinery for years. i am not a novice with tools , nor do i take short cuts. i want things done right and look great. i thought i was up to getting a partially inleted stock and then finish it out. i certainly did not want to butcher a perfectly good gun.

mark, having seen how nice your renegade is, i am seriously considering just reblueing and refinishing the stock on mine. i recently just attained my first T/C in a hawken a month or so ago, and really like the styling and it fits me well.

maybe i should just shut up while i am behind.

anyhow, i appreciate your thoughts,

I'm sure that Pecatonica River has stocks for the 15/16 octagon barreled Hawken but I'm not sure about a Renegade.

If you want to restock it with one of their stocks, I recommend that you call Dick Greensides (the owner) at 815-968-1995 and ask about it.
If it has the larger 1 inch barrel be sure to mention that to him.

The stock supplied by his company is not quite a drop in design and you will have to measure the location and fit the butt plate.

Give Dick a call. He's a great guy and will give you straight answers.

Track of the Wolf also has stocks to fit the T/C Hawken and Renegade, half and full stock with T/C lock inletting in different wood choices. However, the wood on that factory stock is pretty nice once you get the factory finish off and that shotgun style butt comes in pretty handy for hunting loads.

guys,

thanks again for all your feedback, it really is appreciated. again, after seeing mark's gun, it is becoming real tempting to redo the original pieces and just see what happens. its pretty likely , i may start before this three day weekend is over. i never really gave much thought to the convience of having one with the "shotgun" style butt, and in certain cases it probably would be a real atvantage. My T/C hawken fits me very well, and i enjoy shooting it, i have another crescent plated stocked gun, that if i load over say 75 gr in, just doesnt feel as comfortable. not having shot the renegade in its current configuration, i will do a few loads this weekend for sure, and see where it goes.

does anyone else have pics of their renegade, new or refinished, to push me along?

thanks,

spot,

Wow!!, that is HOT!!!

that is one pretty rifle, not overdone in any one way, but still a standout in the crowd. i presume this is a stock you purchased and finished for your T/C you should be proud of this one.

thanks for the pics,

now the gears in my head are a smokin' again.
