Man Patience is a must!

I got a rifle kit before Christmas and i have been applying finish every couple of days. I can't imagine the builders in Lancaster spending this kind of time without a TV to watch while working.

I had six coats of Tru-Oil on my stock in two days. It dries fast. If I was using plain old boiled linseed oil I'd need a T.V. to watch in between coats. The true craftsman take their time to produce a work of art. I put together a kit, I'm a builder not a craftsman.

I know what you mean there Bill! It takes me two to four months to build anything because of my crazy work schedule. And when it gets close to being done I start getting "ants in my pants".

When I started my GPR, I told myself that I was not going to hurry to get it finished. It would be done when it was done. That attitude worked when I was inletting the butt plate. It worked when I was carving the stock. It worked when I took the chisel to the cheekpiece for the inlay. It even worked when I was applying the linseed oil finish. I worked a bit on it every day or every other day and admired the progress. Then Brett Hoffman invited me up to visit the Forest Hills Black Powder Brigade. So I assembled the rifle "in White" and took it up there to show off. Darn,if they didn't make me shoot the thang! All bets were off then. I found every excuse I could to work on the rifle and finish blueing and graying the metal so it would be Done!. And glad I did...

The more attention you put into the details, the slower it will go. But in the end, it'll be worth is because it's the details that really matter. Good luck and shows us pics when you finish!

I am SOOOO tempted to put some detail into shooting and the heck with this finish work......But I know you are right. This kit is too nice to not put the effort into. I am working toward haveing it ready and a good load worked up for the early ML hunting season next year. I guess that would be this year.

Patience doesn't come easy to me, but I am determined to do this right!!!
