Two guys walked in and set up a tarp shelter with a fire out front and spent the night in it. Didn't look like much fun, but they made it.
With a reflector on the other side of the fire a leanto type tent can be quite cosy.

I purchased a voyager cap in bright red.
I am also trying to learn how to do primitive hunts that are PC.
I dont have much knowledge of period correctness so I rely on others on this site that are knowledgeable and do there homework.
I am slowly learning.

"I am slowly learning."

You and the rest of us,... you're doing fine don't worry about having every single item out of the past do what works for you for comfort and practicality/safety, it will come together in time as your interests dictates.

What would be used for a reflector?Something natural like a large flat rock or whatever?Or something man made?

Thanks TG.
You and the others that are into P/C have helped me tremendously.
I have learned a lot from you guys.
I know you and the others do a lot of studying and research.
Ive picked up on this and now do likewise.
Thanks again.

Although I hadn't expected the turn to how PC is PC?, still pretty neat. And great photos TG and Hawkeye! I don't know if I'll ever get into the rondy stuff, although I'm going to check it out, but I would be likely to try the old ways for a hunting camp for a few days. Probably a hassle just for a day trip, but 3-4 days off to the mountains could be neat.

Also, I'm down here in salt marsh country - what's an 18th century version of a Thermacell unit or Permanone spray?!?! :hmm:

I lured Carp onto my property (and the neighbors) last year and wasted his time off with a wash-out hunt. We had fun, but no shots fired or deer seen.

I also have a bright red wool sleeved weskit that works well with or without the orange vest. No law in NY that says you have to wear orange . . . except Darwin's. ;-)

I hunt as PC as I can with mocs, leggins, breechclout, and a frock type, knee length shirt. My nod to the hunter orange requirement is an orange bandana. The first day of squirrel season last week I was dressed as such and came upon a man and a woman who were wearing full camo coveralls, gloves, and had painted their faces with camo. :rotf: Both were carrying high end .22's with some impresive glass on top. They kinda looked at ME funny. However, they had no orange on what so ever. They blended in so well that the only way you knew where they were was when they shot and brother did they shoot! :cursing: With a dailey limit of 5 squirrels a day (10 for the both of them if they limited out), I figure it took about 15 rounds for each squirrel! :v

you can stack small short logs on top of each other and make a sorta "wall" behind the fire. drive 2 small stakes in the ground about 3 feet apart and lean them away from the fire a few degress. then stack the logs biggest diameter on bottom and add the next smaller on top till it is about 4 feet tall.

you can also drive 3 stakes in the ground, each about 2 feet apart. weave small limbs and sticks into the 3 stakes to make a wall. This reflects the heat off the fire into the tent.
