Hi,

just been looking at the pecatonica rifles, in particular their full stock hawken and jager.
Has anyone had experience with them and their quality?
If I was going to get one it’d be in the white, don’t have the time nor the interest in working through the whole thing myself.

It’s a piece of wood shaped like a stock. All the components are the same components offered by all kit sellers. Parts made by Rice, Colerain, green mountain, Davis, L&R etc. I built a pecatonica kit 20 years ago. Way above my skill level so I had to get some help. I didn’t know they offered a kit in the white. If you don’t have skills get a Kibler kit.

They offer great quality parts and their stocks are top notch. If you are a capable individual I recommend getting a pre-carved stock with the ramrod hole drilled and the barrel inlet only. Do all the other inletting yourself.

What Treeman said. I built a Pecatonica rifle using one of their stocks. I just didn't have the tools to do it right. Kibler is a better bet unless you have the right tools and skill level.

Pecatonica has been around a long time and I would rate them as quite trustworthy. They have been set up in a booth at Friendship for as long as I can remember. Their kits do require one to have a few skills but are easily doable. Many years ago I put a youth stock to use in building my wife a little gun. I don't remember much about the assembly except that they leave you plenty of wood to remove if you so desire.

I recently bought a barrel from them and their CS was great. I had tracking issues with USPS and the barrel took 3 weeks to get to me. I was ready to file a claim due to lack of updating tracking information and I talked to someone there at pecatonica and they were ready to help me get it resolved. Luckily, my barrel showed up 2 days later!

They seem like a great company.

Robin, tell Becky that I’m voting for her. Sarge.

Agreed, I bought a Tennessee Mtn Rifle FL kit in .36 cal (Left Handed) from them years ago and really enjoyed the build, still have that rifle and would never let it go.

I'm currently building a Jim Chambers Isaac Haines FL kit in .50 cal, (Left handed), but my next FL kit rifle will again be a Pecatonica FL in .50 cal, they stock a good range of Left handed options, and IMHO are outstanding for the buyer on a budget.
I highly recommend anyone to check out their website, great range of style and kits at very reasonable prices.

I have a LH Virginia rifle kit ordered that will use the Rice .40 barrel I have. They have been very easy to deal with to this point.
