Sent 2 barrels to be worked on 2 months ago. dovetails, cut & crown barrel, breechplug installation. called 2 weeks ago and they said that were would be working on it and have it shipped out next week. Has anyone recently had work done on their barrels? how long did it take? I ordered a kit from them this year and it took almost 2 months to get it delivered. I know they're busy but it should only take a day to work on my barrels?

Okay. I take it back!
After reading all this I put together an order with them for a rifle I'll be working on over the winter. I didn't want to sit and wonder about parts once I begin this project. They were away at Friendship, so I sent the order form out snail mail.
Well, 8 days later I found I had a box on the front porch. My 45 cal. 13/16ths Colrain barrel, breeched and fitted lollipop tang for a SMR, 3 underlugs fitted, front and rear sight dovetails cut. Snail mail in both directions, yet it's the fastest I've ever gotten parts to the door!
Bravo!:ThankYou:

You would think that with traditional BP shooting dying a slow death, the wait times wait times get shorter.
I guess the builders are dying off too.

How true. Someday when Bobby Hoyt retires, who's gonna fill that special need? Wish he could get an indentured servant like back in the 18th Century! :)

I recently was told that Bobby now has an apprentice working with him to learn the ropes. He couldn't get a better teacher.

Called them 3 days ago to see what was up. They lost my shipping and work info and they were waiting for me to call back. Got it straightened out and the barrels are on the way

SO, true. Really where are we going to find a man of his Caliber? And where in the heck are we going to find an Individual like himself to carry on where he left off...?

I was told that Bobby has hired a niece and she’s learning the trade. I hope so. His work and the passion he has for it must not be lost. If I was a younger man I’d take a crack at it. I think Bobby is a few years younger than me.

Back in the frontier days Craftsmen gunsmiths often operated out of small shops but with great skill.
You cannot rush skilled gunsmiths. No one wants a Rush Job where accuracy counts. I think that the
same conditions apply today. Also, where you have mastery of a skill there will be a wait because
everyone wants the Master's touch.
