Pedersoli 1853 Pattern Enfield

I‘m thinking of picking up a new Pedersoli Enfield. I have one of the now discontinued Lyman .577 moulds that I used to use in a Euroarms Enfield. Do you think that that slug would do well in the Pedersoli? I would like to think that I have ammo “taken care of”, before I even got the rifle.

It really depends on bore size in the new gun. I don't know if they are more uniform these days, but there used to be a lot of variation from gun to gun

For best accuracy, the bullet needs to be about .001 under bore size. In most repops, that can vary. Don’t count on that mold being “the one”

I have a Euroarms Zouave, a Chiappa 1853 Enfield and a Armi-Sport 1855 Springfield. They range in bore diameter from 0.578 to 0.581. I also have the old style Lyman mini bullet mold which drops my bullets at 0.580. I size them for the gun I am shooting at the time with the sizer for that particular rifle that I am shooting that I made using my lathe.

I did the same, bullets luubed and formed 1'unders size. 'Military' ie hot load to expand the base.

Just don't expect keyole groups at any distance,bit do expect some fun.

Wanta share how you made the sizer? I know it couldn't be difficult, but I'm new to reloading and could use some input.

The sizer is made out of nylon and I bored it to 0.001" under the bore diameter of the rifle I will be shooting the minie in. I also made a male plug that fits the base of the minie to push the cast minie through the nylon sizer. These two parts work together to size and form the skirt round. Both parts were made on my lathe. Hope this helps

My understanding is that the .550 ones don't work in the new guns because they don't have progressive rifling like the originals. But the .566 with the plug should work. I have yet to cast any from the ones I got. The originals were swaged.

Made mine from brass and steel, both from the ‘scrap’ bin. Use it in an old English made, single stage press.

Sure doesn't look like rocket science! But I wouldn't have ever guessed nylon could work in reducing the diameter of a lead slug.

I used to make a lot of things with the odd tools I had at hand, but it wasn't always easy, quick or elegant. Since getting the lathe ten years ago, I wonder how I ever managed without it!

S&S has the. Northeast trader makes one that wil fit RCBS or any std reloading press it comes w a plunger w a base the same as a shell holder base to push the bullet thru. N.E.T also sells a luber for the bullets

these guys will make what you want. I sent them this design I pinched from old drawings. Never got round to ordering one, tried re-sizing first to determine the correct diameter for my gun. The search goes on.......
