Pedersoli manufactures two type of Hawkens. The Missouri Hawken is intended for conicals, and in .50 cal has a 1:24 twist and shallow grooves.
The Rocky Mountain Hawken is intended for round ball and has slow twist deep groove rifling.
If you want to shoot round balls primarily, the Rocky mountain is what you want. That may be water over the dam now, of course. Still, conicals do cost more, and produce more recoil.
