Specifically, the 1859 Infantry Model... I think I'm in love. Anyone with some trigger time on one is MORE than welcomed to share! TIA

Had a carbine version back in the 80's. Neat gun...different manufacturer...EMF I think it was. Anyway, only issue was some hot gas spitting out from the breech block seal plate area. I would feel some debris on my cheek upon firing. It's not exactly a perfectly tight seal there, or at least it wasn't on my particular gun. Fouling would cause some binding of the action due to buildup on the face of the rising block seal plate thingey...(dunno what the official name is!). It would free up with a shot of lube. Fun gun to shoot.

I just sold my shiloh sharps 1859 military saddle ring carbine to TOW  watch their website

On one of the Civil War Skirmishing websites they addressed the issue of the Italian repop Sharps's gas leakage. There is a rather simple modification that is made involving an o-ring that solves the problem. They mention that the Shilohs do not have this problem, and that Pedersoli and the like have improved their actions to the point that the leakage is tolerable even without the mod.

I had a Sile carbine back in the 70's. It had a stainless steel floating gas seal, it did not gas cut like so many of them I have seen, but it still leaked gas. (as did the originals)

I later machined out a breech block & sleeved in a Ruger #3 barrel to convert it to .45-70.

Dont know if this help's I think they fixed it, but way back I had the "Down Under movie kind" still a 59 with long barrel and no fake tape cut on side and newer hammer and the frame broke while the X USA rep was trying to unjam mine, he replaced it for free said it was one reason he walked off from them, to open his own place - He's really well Known in the Rem rollingblocks now. But it was a shooter with that 32" barrel. (just had thin frames back then , 10 or more years back) Fred :hatsoff:
