I would go ahead & try the factory front sight to see if the height works. Then if you want to go with a different style front you will know what height to get or you may just want to leave the factory on. With any hunting peep sight I find a bead type works the best, cause your eye is centering a circle within a circle. If you want more precision for serious target work a globe type with interchangeable inserts might be better. I have two of the Skinner Lo-Pros, one brass & one blued on a couple Hawken style rifles. I drilled the hole for the 8-40 thread in the flat part of the tang (not in the barrel) & they both work well. Fouling is of minimal consequence. Be aware that any windage adjustment will have to be with the front sight only when using the Lo-Pro. That was not an issue with my rifles, but other rifles may differ. Skinner can provide different height stems if you need more height adjustment. Once again, the front sight height will depend on your rifle, load, caliber, etc. I have a fiber optic front on one & a brass bead on the other. I have a XS system white fronted blade with one of the Marble Bulls Eye rears & a XS system white bead on the other. Both the Lo-Pro tang mounted & the Skinner or Marble dovetail mounted work great. The Lo-Pro is a slightly better target/plinking sight, but the rear mounted Marble is much faster & provides a much better field of view for hunting. A friend has the Skinner barrel mounted sight on ALL of his TC's (which are screw mounted) and they work with the factory front as far as height goes. A lot of this stuff is personal preference & what looks good to your eyes, so dive in & find the combo that works good for you. Let us know, with pics, how things turn out.
