As for all the other stuff on barrels and pressures, give a call to the guy you figure to do your reboring.

He's got more experience than the whole kit and kaboodle of us here. He'll certainly tell you what you can get away with. And what you can't.
 
I've certainly read of outstanding shooters use even a .410 for dove and turkey.

I've shot doves with a .410....that's easy, even shot grouse with my double barrel .410 muzzleloader.
But, no turkeys....but then I haven't tried......

Dreams are the stuff life is made of..... :grin:
 
Just as an aside.....
The longest kill shot I have ever seen with a shotgun was with a 28 gauge..... A friend of mine shot a bird out of a tree top at well over a 100 yards....
Pure luck but a jaw dropper none the less....
