It seems every place I put something it comes here or yonder so starting here...Ive been going on and on for a year about how much info you can find in old Muz Blast at 1.50 each I buy a few years at a time. Ive run across some really great stuff but this one I never heard of in 30 years of shooting these things "Wet PackS" kind of like balis-jell it will show you just what a ball will do OR not. To long to get into here and cant copy the pics and drawings , but if your intrested call NMLRA for back iss May of 1980. This looks like a great way to tell what your load will do at what range to ?? Fred :hatsoff:

So you are saying we can use Wet Packs as ballistic gelatin?

How many do you think it would take to stop a roundball at any given velocity?

Man has sought the perfect testing substance for his ballistic weapons for centuries. The best method was likely the sides of beef used to test the .45 ACP in the early 1900s. The best only because it told what they wanted to know and had already decided, (that big and slow worked very well) so it was surely a lot of fun.

(I think that you would have PITA all over you if you tried to replicate this testing today, besides, I would whine about wasting the steaks.)

But time marched on and we were told of the great ballistic gels. Yes, people have all of these high tech substances that need to be kept at special temperatures and used within a fairly short window of time, but the truth is that there are so many variables involved in hitting a body with a projectile that testing various ammo into these high tech substances accomplishes little more than obtaining a, "Hey guys, look at this one!" result. None of it proves much of anything.

I suggest that you just thoroughly soak a bunch of phone books in water over night and blast them to your heart's content. They are fairly consistent and readily available.

Wet phone books are just as much fun and cheap a plenty compared to fancy gels and perfectly edible steaks. :)

i use wet newspaper in a paper shopping bag they fit just right....just tape up the top and bottom and sides from front to back on the edges like a square around the target with duck tape...........bob

The test in this Muz Blast gives a hand full of different loads and cals, even against centerfire ammo, the round ball did really well, better than anyone thought. (from a quick read) Anyone see the Mythbusters shootin into water? The only one youd not be safe from after 3 feet was the muzzel loader, and they used 50BMG,30-06, ect. The exit holes for Rbs pictured are big after 2 5" packs, while the 30-30 went zipping on thru. Anyway it's worth 1.50 to read for me. Fred :hatsoff:

I was shocked the first time I ever fired a round ball hunting load into a line of gallon water jugs...at 25yds, I used a .45cal Flintlock, 90grns Goex 3F, Oxyoke wad, .018" pill/tick, Hornady 128grn ball...the water eruption covered 20 feet!!

I got to get out door to the hospital, this danged mch was stuck all night and couldnt even log off. The pics of balls at diff loads and range, along with the pics of the holes made are well worth the buck ands a half. More later if they dont keep me for another month. Fred :hatsoff:
