percussion pistols

I am looking to purchase a cap pistol for my club shoots. I am not really interested in caliber just shootability and reliability. There are many brands like CVA, Lyman, Pedersoli and Traditions. What do people recommend?

My funds are pretty limited so the best bang for the buck so that is in consideration. Thanks for any help. Thanks All.

Finley got to shoot my two newest pistols last Thursday.
25yard offhand.
The Traditions Crocket surprised me with how well it did.
The flint I had in the Pedersoli Lepage was too long and didn't want to spark well
so caused some problems, only managed 90 with the Lepage but 97 4x with the Crocket.

Look for a Jukar, CVA or Traditions Kentucky. They are all pretty much the same. Look for them on some of the auction sites, like Auction Arms and Gun Broker. I bought a .45 CVA Kentucky percussion from a friend for $25. I was basicly in parts, but he bought another pistol. I put it together and went back the following month to the club's match. Felt sorry for my friend, because I out shot him with this old pistol. They may not be as pretty and graceful as others, but they sure can shoot :thumbsup:

I know I probably opened up a can of worms when it comes to favorites in shooting (just ask which rifle to buy :haha: :rotf: :haha: )
I have heard much about the flints but in keeping with my mountain man persona a decent pistol is always needed.

As I recall the kit was about $165.00. It does need some tinkering to refine the lock and get a decent trigger pull but most of them do. I've since gotten better groups than the one photographed but for reference that is a 6 bull rifle target fired at 25 yards over the hood of my truck. The bull measures 2 3/4" and I'm now getting groups of 2" pretty consistently.

I've won several pistol matches with mine in .54 caliber.
Never had a problem with it.
