Howdy folks,
What do you use to protect the nipple when you dry fire? I've tried a number of things, from putting silicone inside spent caps, to cardboard, and even a wad of rags over the nipple. None worked particularly well.

How about on a revolver? Is there an easier way?

Thanks

Personaly I will just use a live cap, but a small piece of neoprene tubing that is slightly longer than the nipple will work also.

I'm using a piece of 1/4" thick leather with a leather string attached to it. I let the hammer down on it when I'm not using it. Very good protection not to mess up the nipple.

:) Snapping dogs are bad, snapping turtles are worse ,but he who snaps a gun are the gun collectors curse. Anon :blah:

I buy a foot or so of 1/4" I.D. windshield washer hose from the auto parts store. I then cut off a section about 1/4" or so long and slip it over the nipple. It's very tight at first, but with some twisting and some snapping usually loosens up to be a rather snug slip fit.

Neat thing is that once it's 'adapted' to being on the rifle, it can work as a safety device while you're sitting in the deer stand with the nipple capped and the lock cocked. The hose section will keep the hammer from contacting the cap should it fall accidently. When game appears, you can carefully slip the hose section off the nipple without disturbing the cap.

I use the plastic tubing closures, comes in all sizes. I don't do a lot of dry firing and the first ones I bought are still good.
