Does anyone know what the deal is with the range closing? Is it going to reopen?

Fiddler - A bunch of PGC ranges have closed, statewide, due to them not having enough money to maintain them. Contact your legislator and tell them the PGC needs more money (Read: a license increase!)

With the closing of these ranges, is it possible for the private sector to come in and lease a range for say a "Muzzleloading Club", to be used as a private club with all upkeep falling to the club? Just a thought that some may wish to look into? :hmm:

Fiddler, back in feb. there was a write up in the Allentown new paper. It said it was closing due to safety concerns and lead removal. PA GC new release
I think the paper said it was waiting on money.

bty The PA ranges are available to be reserved by groups for private use. Wouldn' it be great to get a group from the forum together for a shoot
Lehigh..

A local shoot sure sounds interesting especially with the weather warming up.

Fiddler are you a member over at Branch Valley on rt 563 by the PennRidge airport? I use to be a member but haven't renewed in a couple years. Nice place to shoot. Plus I know they have a youth team that won the states the other year and you have to shoot muzzleloader in order to compete.

I live in Perkasie by the high school so that probably puts you about 5 minutes away.

Hi Bison. No, with the Nockamixon range so close, I never bothered to join a club. My oldest goes to the HS. It seems like I spend an awful lot of time taxiing to/from there.(g)Do you do any reenacting/rendezvous?

No not yet. I'm just looking to buy my first weapon in the next few days. I'm a big waterfowl hunter and my wife would kill me if I started something lik that.

PS Let me know if you'd like to get together & shoot after I buy my gun.

Hi Bison. Sure. I'm always up for a shoot. What are you planning to buy? If you haven't discovered it yet, there is a good muzzleloader shop on 611 in Ottsville, Neshanic Depot/Station? He's a little expensive, but he knows his stuff. The other big muzzleloader shop is Dixon's off of 78 in Kempton. Flamin' Harry in Perkasie is a big BP shooter and he does some custom work I think.

Man you guys sure make me glad that I have my own place to shoot. If your ever in south Georgia let me know and you can shoot at my range.

Now what would you do if all 3170+ members showed up at your range at once? :D

Fiddler & Salt,

I've been to both Neshanic and Dixon's, good stores but Neshanic is expensive. Hopefully in the next hour I will be the proud owner of a Lyman .50 Trade rifle in flint. Might have to break it in this weekend. hehehe.

I haven't renewed my membership to Branch in a couple of years but it was $50/member and $75/family the last I paid. They have a lit 3D bow course, trap league, indoor/outdoor pistol range, rifle range and stocked fishing pond. They have also added on to the clubhouse which is available to be used by members. I don't know if it is still open but Water & Wings gun club had a range that you can buy time at and shoot out to 500 yards. They are located off the Quakertown exit of the turnpike extension.

Well it's a done deal. I've bought my first muzzleloader. I'm now the proud owner of a Lyman .50 Trade Rifle flintlock. Picked it up used for $200 and it is in great condition and came with fiber-optic sights. Now I just need to get some ammo and supplies and I can go shooting. I feel like a little kid at Christmas. hehehehe.

Salt,

Yes I did buy it thru a private dealer. Got some supplies at Targer World (I get a discount due to my NRA & DU memberships), Tanners and went to Neshanic for some other things. I haven't checked out Quinby's for supplies but I do know that they do carry some. If you don't mind the drive Dixon's is good and then Cabela's is just down the road if you can't find what you want there. We might be needing to get together to shoot once I get all my supplies. I'll let you know. I'm literally around the corner from Branch Valley. It might take you 2 minutes to get to my house for the club. We are on the front lawn of Penn Ridge High School.

just let me know when & where. With the PGC range closed, I'm going through withdrawl.
