Phil Spangenberger has died

Phil Spangenberger died Sept. 26. To those who don't know he was a writer and really into about all aspects of old west history, the clothes, the horse equipment and horse knowledge, the guns both muzzleloader and cartridge etc.. It sucks that people who's stuff I read and enjoyed when younger are dying.

Same with musicians I've read and learned a lot from Phil over 40+ years.
Skeeter Skeleton's son Bart Skeleton also a law man and gun writer passed away recently. Skeeter's long ago article in "Guns and Ammo" convinced me a .44 S&W Special was just what I needed as I made my first centerfire revolver purchase. These guys leave big shoes to fill.....

Got started by reading Phil's writing. Also Rick Hacker, Skeeter and Elmer. Watching the westerns on TV with my grandpa and the Wonderful World of Color and Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone. The great story tellers are leaving us for heaven and it's up to the rest of us still here to pass on our legacy to the next generation. RIP, Phil, till we all meet again.

I am sorry to hear this. Over 40 years ago when I first started with muzzle loaders Phil was one of the early authors whose writings I read. I have a number of old DGW Black Powder Annuals from way back and I believe it's the 1981 edition that has Phil on the cover wearing a red capote and standing in what looks like a snow covered pass. He was extremely knowledgeable. May he rest in peace.
