check it out I invented a new word.
any body have there picture taken with one of these new
fangled contraptions? I havent found anybody locally who
does daugerotypes, but I did get dressed up and had one of those tourest trap wild west guys take a series of pics
with his rig, one of them you can almost see, on the left,
I hesitate posting them, becouse of the hole professional photographer thing.
of course the bigest problem is getting the mirror image
part correct, (it was suggest I put everything on backwards
to simulate the affect, but some things just dont fit like that.
any ideas out there? ::
and what year did thay start to switch to that other new fangled tin type thing?

Have somebody take your pic with a good quality digital camera (I know, not quite PC) and then find someone experienced in Photoshop to make it look like the old tintype photos.

hmmmm, theres an idea, :hmm:
can photoshop do a mirror immage to simulate a dawgerotype?
nice cival war pic by the way.
I guess back then, to offset the mirror image effect,
thay put there stuff on backwards, so it would look correct.
I love those mex war shots, especally the one with all the infantry lined up one side of the street, all clean shaven.
and lookin good, I wish there had been an NCO with crossed
belts in it though.

Thanks! I have a lot more CW pics I'm working on.

Yes, Photoshop can do a mirrored image very easily. The Photoshop commands (drop down menus) would be: click on "Image" in the tool bar, then "rotate canvas", then "flip canvas horizontal". I just tested it with an image that has wording in it. It takes about 5 seconds to do.

If you have the black and white negitive, all you have to do is turn it over and print it and you have the mirror image. If it's a color neg. the same thing works, but print it as a black and white, and it will be kind of sepia tone. If it's a b&w photo and you want it sepia tone, try soaking it in coffee. If you don't have the neg, but you do have a scanner and a good photo paint program, scan it and do all them wonders the computer mavens do. I have corel photo paint, and it would butter my toast and brew the coffee if I just knew enough about it. Man it will do wonders, but I aint figgered out how to do a one of 'em.

sweet, now all I got to do is find someone with a decent dig
camera.
I suppose no one does dawgs these days becouse of the hole mercury thing,
are you famillier with military images magizine?
I subscribed for a while, becouse I was hoping that some
more mex war dawgs would turn up in there, but it was just all cival war stuff, and some post war stuff,

You can make any picture look like a negitive by inverting the colors...

Rough,

Photoshop is capable of doing anything you could need in photo work. I've been working with it at the newspaper for many, many years. You can invert, adjust, tweak, manipulate, colorize, alter, correct or hell just create your photos from a bunch of photos. For the past three years I've been toying with the idea of shooting staged period photo shoots at area rondys. Until the advent of the cheap digital cameras this was going to be labor intensive and somewhat expensive, but not now. Cameras and memory cards are very reasonable and getting better.
Also with all the software add-ons and filter packages for photoshop it will do just about everything except wash the dishes and put the cat out. There truly are no limits to what you can create in photoshop.
