I picked up this lock from an old timer at a sportsman’s club. He said he purchased it probably in the late 60’s from Dixie Gun Works…he thought it might be Belgian made. He said he was working for Colt at the time and had it case hardened while they were case hardening other parts. From the research I have done it appears to be a Harper’s Ferry pistol lock. My intent was to build a 7/8” barreled half stock rifle and possibly use this lock. It would just be a hunting rifle for me. Wondering if this would be a totally out of place lock and should I trade for something else? The lock sparks pretty well…added some powder to the pan and it light’s right off.

I don’t believe there is a fly. I would do a single trigger gun anyway…my thoughts were a New England style halfstock with wooden rib

Some searching showed a Sweitzer lock with a similar style to it…maybe make a Lancaster militia style rifle?
