So picked up another one a CVA Mountain Rifle, factory stock off one guy then a petty good, Douglas barrel 1-66 50 cal. bore was good but the bolster screw was rusted in place. Found that out the hard way, started a ball with no powder!!! And they put a very soft screw in that bolster, it couldn't have even been grade 5 !!
So been socking it in Kroil for the week, inside and out. So this am with a good cup of coffee. Went at it, took the Dremel and a very smaller round cutter bite, added depth to the slot, then a bit of heat and drop Kroil on the outside, yes made sure there was no charge in him. Let it set came back, more heat Kroil wait, then more heat, a soft hammer rap and a lot of down ward presser, felt it snap lose. Found a matching thread screw but long, how hand fitting it to the bolster, will be better the factory. Named him Frank short for Frankenstein. So I'll have a matched set, same sighting, load, if one goes down have a back up. Will post some photos down the trail . Do like working on them!

Ah, the old dry ball trick. Many, many of the forum members are a member of that club, including me. But it is a learning point.
Ya a laps of thought at the wrong time. Then trying to get enough powder in the nipple hole on a cold am @ the range!!!!
