Pietta 12g side by side 28”

Hello,

Any one know ANYTHING about these?

I’m new to ML’s especially smooth bores
Saw this add below in the for sale section from a reputable seller on the forum, but haven’t been able to find out any info it even exists-keep finding Pietta’s newer stage coach version w a 20 inch barrel:

Very good condition overall Pietta National Wild Turkey Federation Commemorative 12 gauge SxS. Unsure of chokes. Very minimal handling marks and some small scratches. Bores in the 28" barrels are very good. Checkered wrist. Engraved lock plates. Fiber optic sights. Replacementramrod. Sticky filler pads added to hold in place..

Apparently it’s cylinder choke

Curious on the quality?availability of parts? what year it’s a replica of?
If it should shoot round balls ok & safely?

Would like to do a fair amount of that if it’s possible w a (thinner barreled) shotgun
And if so what call patch etc would u recommend?

Appreciate any info experience tips anyone wants to share on the subject including double barrel percussion shotguns in general

There's a two-letter code that will indicate the date of manufacture. It does not necessarily replicate any particular year or manufacturer, just mid-late 1800's European or English style gun. Plenty of parts out there, VGI Gunparts has some, and most interchange with the Pedersoli guns while some need fitting. You can shoot ball with no problem. My SxS smoothbores shoot better without a patched ball. I load powder, a cushion wad then a card, ball and then an over-shot card. Get the ball that is as big as will fall down the barrel. In some of these shotguns there's a bit more choke in one barrel than the other. I get best results with 2 different ball sizes, each closest to the bore size. Example: a 20-gauge uses .626 balls in the right barrel but .610 in the left due to different amounts of constriction. Both impact the same spot on the paper. There are several on the market on various sites, but in my opinion they are over-priced for what they are. Anything south of $800 in good condition is a good buy - again my opinion. The one in the classifieds looks good and is priced fairly. Full disclosure, while I have handled and fired Pietta shotguns like the one you're asking about, I have only personally owned Pedersoli's as far as replicas.

Would think the chokes would be halfway decent if it’s supposed to be a turkey gun tho

Yeah, he thought the choke’s were the same in both barrels but one end measured something like 0.10” smaller-so seems like it has to have 2 different chokes right?

Curious: so u put the cushion was after the powder to help w accuracy right?
Does then placing a card over it seal up pressure better or something ?

Understand the over card & figure u had a good reason

Date code is 1979 btw

Any idea how well they were made back then compared to now ?

Curious what kind of groups at 50 yd is typical for PRB out of these?
