I just ordered a Pietta 1860 Sheriff model .44 from cabela's yesterday,They have them on sale for $199 and the regular price is $269..They also have a deal on shipping $5.00 instead of $16.00..
I will post up with a range report once It arrives..Does anyone have one? If so what load do you use etc? The 5.5" brl should be a flame thrower with my usual 20g FFFG I guess.. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/...&indexId=cat20817&hasJS=true&_requestid=80130

I've got their brass .44 navy sheriff, which I used 20 grains in. Max recommended for it is 27 by their literature.

Sadly had to return the first one, bad timing. These come literally dripping in oil fun too clean.

Be real careful taking it apart the first time, nipples and screws were way too tight, and are fairly soft metal.

They are beauties though. I saw one like yours in the store, but my navy was $129 at the time. So I couldn't resist.

Hi Fred!

My 1860 Army loading is 27 grains of 3Fg Goex, a pre-lubed wonder-wad, and a .454 Hornady ball. It's the same load for the 8" barreled revolver.

As far as muzzle blast, try fillin 'er up with about 35 grains, a wad and a ball! Then hold on and watch the flames!

Back in the day it was quite possible to set a man's clothes on fire with a close-range shooting!

Good luck with the new shootin irrrron!

They can be a little strange about their pricing. On the web last week it said $149 on sale, but when I got to the store it was $129.

Yet at the store some of the stuff that was on sale on the web wouldn't come up that price at the register. Thankfully the folks are nice there and will check the web price. Sadly they don't have that access at the register, which means you have to get some other employee or a manager.

At any rate they really do seem like nice guns, aside from the screws being a bit soft. Actually the internal parts seem to have a better more uniform finish and appear higher quality than the Uberti made navy arms I have.

Fred,

The measurements that I give for black powder are always volumetric, as I've never weighed them.

I'm not sure of the amount of the difference, especially in smaller pistol charges. Others on the Forum have written about the differences and know more than I.

Hi Fred this is my Petta Sheriff sec from bottom and its a 36 cal

Cool,I like the .36cal better than the .44..I have 2 1851's in .36..Looks like you have quite the collection

It may be lonly but it was my first about 25 years ago and It seams like I have the least problems with it LOL

Well I received my Sheriff and it looks great..There shipping/Packaging leaves a lot to be desired though..Every one I have bought from cabela's has arrived with a dented pistol box inside the big box they put it in along with some air bags that are supposed to keep the pistol box from bouncing around that arrived with air still in in a few of them :cursing: ...
Anyway I took it and cleaned most of the oil off it and loaded her up with 20g FFFG and .454 ball and wad and #10 Rem caps (That fit perfectly)..I set up 2 targets at 25yd and I shot the 1st 6 shots from the bench and it shot a nice group including one bull..I shot the next 12 shots offhand at 25yds and well It was not so good but at least all 12 were in the circle..Now I get to spend some time at the sink cleaning her..Here are some pics..

Good shootin Fred, especially from a stubby!

Aren't tight fitting #10's just great!

Thanks Dave,I like it but I did notice the hammer drags a little on the left side of the recoil shield just before the hammer reaches the nipple..It didn't do it (I don't think)until I shot it 12 times or so so I figured I had a piece of cap down in the works so I took it all apart but I didn't find anything..Once I put everything back together I noticed some of the screws were kinda loose so I tightened them up and now it just drags a very little bit but I can still feel it when I let the hammer down slowly..I think it will be fine after I shoot it some more..

Nice Revolver Fred
Do you think its a little harder to get the lead balls in when loading ? mine looks like the cutout area is smaller then my other Brand Revolvers ?

I didn't try the loading lever yet,I removed the cylinder and used my loading stand.I'll try the lever next time and see how it works..

Cabela's has the Navy Sheriff on sale for $129! At that price I couldn't resist and I ordered one along with some .454 hornady balls and some wads. Can't wait for this beauty to add to my collection...

Cabela's has great sale prices on Colt C&B revolvers.

I think they are all Pietta's, correct?

Is their build quality as good as Uberti? I have a Cimmaron Uberti Dragoon currently and it is pretty impressive. Whatever I get next I'd like equal quality (or better!).

The reviews of the Colt's on the Cabela's website are mostly raves...is this reality or just a few happy customers?

Thanks!

They are all pietta's,I have a bunch of em and I have no fit/finish or quality complaints..All of mine shoot good..They are well worth the $$$
