You can get Case Hardened Blue, Charcoal Blue or
Original.
Cimmaron and their local outlet, "Texas jack's" in Fredericksburg, also offer a very interesting 'weathered' finish. Have seen a couple and they're pretty tight-lipped about the technique but it's obviously some sort of wearing back a blue finish. The "Charcoal Blue" is nicely done and begins toning down and thinning pretty quick with use and soon matches the color of many old pieces.

I have one with the original finish and I am wondering if it could have been done possibly done with naval jelly.

Have never seen anything definitive on their technique but done the Naval Jelly thing and it works...in fact, it works so well it'll also remove the color from case hardening and leave everything soft grey. Good thing I wasn't concerned about that one, I'd been in big doo-doo! :haha: The result is a soft color because it leaves the entire surface with microscopic pits. The Uberti technique appears to be more of a more polished technique with some effort expended to remove the bluing and giving a good aged appearance. Cimarron or Texas Jack's might tell you how it's done, they're distributors and pretty loose folks. Just say, "Heide ya'll" when they answer, they'll never know you're not local! :rotf:

May be a little off topic, but I believe that some of these importers do have "exclusive" rights to some of the "one-off" models offered by the manufacturers i.e. the 1860 Army Snub-Nose by Pietta, imported only by EMF. :idunno:

Well, I ordered a Pietta 1860 Colt Army from Cabelas.

Started cleaning the factory oil from it and found a deep machining gouge streaking across the rifling--essentially making the barrel unusable.

Not Cabelas fault but I really question the QA at Pietta. It should never have passed inspection and been put on the market.

My Uberti's to date have been without faults.

Unfortunately, you'll find one from all the maker's that gets past the inspectors...one of the reasons my grandad alwasy got the origin papers form any car he'd buy...never buy a Monday or Friday car! Seems guns may be the same!!
