I've hunted the Caddo Grasslands near Dodd City, deer hunted on the Tx/LA line near DeCalb and hunted a huge piece of pulpwood land on the Neches between Rusk and Palestine. Unless the weather is hot I've always enjoyed hunting there, ( it always rains).
My old friend used a 22 WMR exclusively, it never let him down.

I read where David Crockett used a 41 caliber rifle to kill hundreds of black bear, so size doesn't always matter.
