Howdy everybody!

I have an idea and was wondering if anybody ever tried it for cleaning your muzzlestuffer with any ILL effects? I was thinking about using PINESOL CLEANER maybe mixed with a little water to clean my muzzleloader bore. I currently use Lehigh Valley cleaner and have been wondering if PINESOL would work just as good for a cleaner not a patch lube? If anyone could cast a little wisdom on this subject or what 'you think would happen' that would be great!

:thanks:

While this will likely remove fouling, I would not use pine sol or other cleaners of this type.

Pretty harsh stuff and could cause more problems than simply cleaning the bore. Like premature rusting and damage to wood finish and brass.
5-15% TALL OIL ACIDS, SODIUM SALT

For wedge pin removeable barrels remove the barrel and nipple/vent and place the nipple end in a bucket.

I've been using about a gallon of boiling hot water mixed with a TBS of dish or laundry soap. Brush 5-10 strokes followed by pump flushing 10-20 strokes.

Rinse with boiling hot clean water.

For pinned barrels, plug the nipple/vent and pour boiling hot soapy water into the barrel and let stand a few minutues. Then pull the plug and swab with wet patches until they come out clean.

Rinse with boiling hot clean water.

When the barrel is nice and hot, run some 99% isopropyl alcohol patches in the barrel and let it dry/cool.

Lube as required.

Lehigh is made with the same "type" of household cleaner and has been shown to be fantastic in bore protection. Just weaken it with water lets say 10-1 and you shouldn't have any trouble.

Lehigh is made with the same "type" of household cleaner...

Where did you get that information? I have looked everywhere and I couldn't find what Lehigh cleaner is made from. :hmm:

Can you give me any more information on this? :thanks:

Well, they're aren't going to post it on the internet. :haha: I having a buddy at a NIH lab break it down for me. I belive it has Pinesol or (that other type of pine cleaner that starts with a "L" (not lysol) I forget the name of it, someone help me out. I also believe it has Kroil oil in it.

I'll know more in a month or two.

Well...now what in 'tar nation' will I do? ::

Now I am so curious I can't sit down!

Shoot!

Any ideas???

Well, they're aren't going to post it on the internet.

Well, :hmm: yes they are. Find the name brand and manufacturer and you can find the MSDS as posted above for PineSol for whatever product you're looking for. I do a large run of these every year for the camp's rifle range chemicals and keep that as part of my official range documentation for the inspection team.

Very handy resource as it can save a ton of time when deciding on storage (flash point) and what safety materials to have on hand in the trauma kit.

Well, :hmm: yes they are.

Fantastic !!! Great save be some time and a case of Sam Adams.

Vic since you know what you're doing find me the ingredients of a bottle of Lehigh Valley Shooting Patch Lubricant" made by Lestom Laboratories, Inc.

I think I just stuck my fat foot in it, Slowpoke... In a bunch of years looking for MSDS's this is the first time I've come up empty. No Lestom Laboratories, Inc website at all, and a search only comes up with two cites for them- both adverts for the lube, and a link to an experiment page that loops back.

I sent off an email to the only contact I could find for them asking for an msds for me to review as it does sound like a useful product, if a little costly.

You may still need that case of Sam Adams yet, but I'll keep you posted on what I find out

The pinsol you buy at the market is not near as harsh as the pro-strength stuff.I use about a once of pinsol in a coffie can with cold water, cleans real good.Takes the fouling and tallow lube right out of my bore with little effort.
Works great in moose milk, not as slick as murphys oil soap but cleans better shot to shot, less fouling seems to me.I think it has a edge accuracy wise in the moose milks.Dutch Schultz has a great shooting cleaner-moose milk in his safistacated formula.Probably the most accurate moose milk i have tried to date.
I have never tried pinsol as a patch lube by it self that i can remember, probably work but it has a very strong smell, sure not sumthin youed want on your fingers when hunten anyways.
Me i like tallow, but moose milk is fun to shoot too ::
I have never found the msds for lehigh valley lube,if it exsist. If it dosnt have any hazzardes chemicals in it i dont think they have to a msds.If anyone can find the msds for it im all ears.

Thanks Vic,
No big deal. When I get the chemical list back, we'll all sit down, use our collective minds, and figure it out. I was really impressed with the testing that guy did and the rust resistant properties of Lehigh. I'd bet $1 it has Kroil and/or some pine oil type cleaner in it.
