I am asking on behalf of another who asked me where to get a plain powder horn without paying an arm and a leg. Just a simple horn, nothing fancy. I make horns, but only for myself, and I don't like doing it. Who here makes, or knows who makes, reasonably priced plain horns for sale?

How plain? A sort of any powder horn will do? Or is it for re-enacting? If any ol' powder horn will do, how about October Country?

Wayne Zurl will sell you one like this:

for $40 - $50. And Log Cabin has some in that same price range with domed butts that look okay in their catalog pics. Tracks are just a little more dear.

I think when you get down to $15 - $20, you end up with mostly black horns, turned domed butts, sometimes a flaw or two, and not a lot of character. But you can get those from Track, The Possibles Shop, or Log Cabin if that is what you want.

Ebay, type in powder horn in the search , theres only bout 150 to choose from, look in ebay stores as well, plenty of variety and price ranges

Thanks guys.

I have already recommended against the cheap foreign ones. I got one years ago and the hole was not even drilled all the way through to the hollow inside! You couldn't get powder in or out! The rear plug (I just don't like saying "butt plug") was pieced together.
