Now I've gone and done it. I was playing around with #6 glass beads and ended up with this - about 18" by 2":

Should have made my warp longer, of course. The question is, of course, what to do with it. The idea I had was to cut a belt to sew it to, but if anyone has better suggestions, let me know.

I fear it's too short for a hatband, unless you don't mind a gap bridged by leather thongs at the back.

The idea of a pipe ax decoration sounds interesting, but I'm not sure how it would work. Do you have pictures of what you mean? I may just attach leather to bind the ends, whatever I end up doing.

Nice work. How did the Native Americans display wampum?

Glue it to a nice piece of deer or elk skin in the center use the rest to extend the hatband or whatever.I had a piece about three inches wide and glued it to my guitar strap :)

I'd like to have a powderhorn strap made of it,i have a wampum one,if i had the patience i would make one myself.Alas i have yet to find any~ :idunno:
