Howdy,
Any ideas?
28in .50 smoothbore 7/8th
I’d appreciate any help finding out what this was made for. I’ve never seen a 50 smoothie before.

Thanks for your help..,

Maybe tell/show us what is stamped on the barrel flats other than the visible serial number.

Also, how did you measure 7/8” across the flats? A 50 caliber in 7/8” barrel doesn’t make sense.
The bottom picture shows the stamps. A diamond (Sharon?) and a slash.

Try your tape across the muzzle. It could be that your hook has a 1/16 of slop in it. I’m guessing its a 15/16 tc hawken barrel that was reamed out to a smooth bore, and probably filed on the flats near the breech end to remove the markings.

Checked again without using the hook and it’s still 7/8. It measures the same at both ends.
It does look TCish to me too.
The barrel stamps are still untouched, A diamond and a slash.
It didn’t seem to fit in the tc hawken stock but I can try again this afternoon.
