Got a chuckle out of that. I read the same thing about people who ride mtn. bikes and broken collar bones.

Just make certain sure, before you put powder under that nipple, that the ball is fully seated as far down the bore as it can be - you do not want any open space between the ball and the powder - however much you manage to get int there.

I have always poured a little vegetable oil down the bore. Let it set for 10 or 15 minutes to let the patch soak. Then pull the ball out. Not that I have ever dry balled!

That's the nice thing about my 1863 Sharps. If I ever dry ball I can open the breach and put the powder in.

By my calculations, you just added two more irrelevant post to the topic and you didn't add anything constructive to the OP's question. Its almost like there's a finite supply of bandwidth and we're about to runout. I'm sure that the OP wouldn't have asked his question if he knew he could have searched for the answer in the search engine.

That's my whole point. The OP "GOT IT", but the posts continue, ad infinitum! Stuck Ball should be a "sticky" thread and required reading before you can join the forum. This is the second thread in a week & there are at least 2 "stuck ball" threads a month & the SAME people keep replying with all the SAME answers. For crying out loud, all you have to do is click on "search", type in stuck ball, and a thousand or more post will appear before your eyes giving you hundreds of ways to get the damn thing out. It's just stupid beyond belief that this is a continuous topic of discussion. Makes us look STUPID, IMHO. Maybe it's just a pet peeve of mine, but it is just plan ridiculous how much this is discussed here. Moderators, MAKE THIS TOPIC A REQUIRE READING before accepting a new member. There are hundreds of threads available that can be recommended. This is my last post on this subject.
