Is plumbers lead harder or softer than battery lead?

I have no idea since I avoid battery lead. The acid it has soaked in causes it to vaporise at a much lower temp than regular lead. (So I have been told-no proof )So for safety I don't touch the stuff! :surrender:

Plumber's lead would be softer.

Not only is battery lead hazardous, it is more trouble than it's worth to salvage.

Buy lead at a scrap yard.

My experiance with plumbers lead is that it is VERY soft = Good!

I tried to salvage a battery for lead once (back in the late 80's, before everything was bad for me) and it was a BIG old PITA!

I'm a truck driver,and for years I specialised in Haz Waste Battry lead is full of poisens, you need special eguepment to meet EPA.regs.

I bought some lead from EBAY that was "pure" and it ended up being HARD!!!!! The hardest lead I have ever tested. I asked the guy where it came from and it was melted car batteries. After the lead has been melted, the acids are no longer a problem. I don't know if ALL batteries are as hard as the lead I got but I don't ever want that cr@p again. don't mess with the batteries. I'll concur with the consensus here- i've never used battery lead and i don't plan to start in the forseeable future. i've used plumber's lead and it was great and i wish i could get a zillion pounds of it!

It is a good idea to stay free and clear of battery lead for all the reasons already mentioned.
