My brother made this pistol from a kit many years ago. It is unfired and he gave it to me as a gift. He does not remember who made the kit. I was wondering if someone on here could give me that info. The only markings on it is CMC and the serial number 10436a. I believe it is .50 cal.

Thanks,

Pguy

The kit is currently offered by Dixie Gun Works
"The New Orleans Ace" http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_162_194&products_id=868

Classic Arms used to offer those and a few other kit's like that, Direct from them mail order for 29.99 and 39.99 or at most Big Box stores, Sporting Goods and Rural Harware stores in the 70's.

Pretty much a novelty. If you point it at someone under the table, you might hit them.

The one I have I load with 20 gr FFFG and a .010 patch and a .440 ball. Use it if I have to dispatch a deer when I get up on one after the shot. I have used it twice to do just that, held next to the head and works everytime. I also carry it in the spring and summer in a holster made for my haversack while mushroom hunting, etc. When I carry it for that I load it with 20gr again but use a 50gr powder measure loaded with 9 shot and put two lubed wads over the shot. Works for me on snakes, etc. but it does make F&G a little nervous to see a pistol in a holster across your chest. They are usually the ones who want to see it, shoot it, and generally play with it!

I remember the movie "Attack of the Killer Tomato" and often wondered if their were "Killer Mushrooms" too.

If their are, it sounds like you are prepared for them. :)

Even I know he carries the load on #9's for Copperheadedwaterrattlers! :haha: Geo. T.

Yeah if it is a kit I think I would leave the rod and guides off. It's not as though you were going to get to reload if you had to use it for defence! Geo. T.

The point is that there was a rash of people stealing other people shrooms. I don't expect you to understand being you don't have any there, but here they are big business, often going for anywhere from 15-30 per lb. So instead of hunting their own, people steal them from other people coming out of the woods. While i wouldn't ever think I would need it, it sure changes things when people see it. And yes, we do have poisonous snakes here. No, not huge rattlers, but yes none the less. My misses won't go unless I have it, so in reality it's more for her. Anyone else got a smartass answer?????

Unfortunatly yes Necci. There was a case last year a man in his 70's was beat pretty hard because he refused to give his up. What is this world coming to?

Sounds like some folks there have a real lack of Morels (or is that morals?).

Is that smart ass enough for you?

Our mushrooms down here are usually of a different variety. Not the type to cook with. But still worth some big money.

Here in Indiana, Morel mushrooms sell for $50 per pound retail. A bag full of Morels might be worth a lot of bucks.

Many Klatch

oh I know those mushrooms! I haven't seen that sort of thing in about 20 years.
I bet we have a ton of them around these cow fields in my neck of the woods. Hadn't given much thought to it until now.
I bet thats why the younger cousins keep coming up here ass early in the morning in the spring and late fall...
 duh!
I am so calling them to task when 'fishing season' starts. I haven't seen them do much fishing now that I think on it.

Toting a gun around in your pocket like this one looks like a good way to be personally involved with an AD to me!
It's useless if not capped and dangerous to carry if capped and if danger is present than it probably would be capped. MD

Accidental discharge, made famous my Maxwell Smart of the old TV series (Get Smart)when he would often reach for his pistol in a hurry and fire it while still in his pocket or waist band and then wonder if he had shot his manhood off. "Mist it by that much" was his tag line. :rotf: MD

True, toting a gun in your pocket would be a good way to shoot yourself. I take it you didn't read my earlier post that it is in a holster on the strap of my haversack I have. The way it rides, because I have a belly, the barrel is always pointing away from me. Besides, it just there really for looks. My misses doesn't know it's not capped and neither do the other people I meet. Like I said earlier, if I need it to dispatch a snake, my misses isn't usually looking in my direction! So I cap it and fire and she is all better. I served my country and believe in my 2nd Amendment. An armed society is a polite society... :stir:

Zonie, yes,lol, good enough

We have a tough brand of morels here in Michigan. Friend of mine was charged by a female morel defending her young. He tried to quick-draw a Walker Colt, was too slow, and got gored rather badly. I prefer a claymore for close range defense. graybeard
