Point of impact question.

Hey Fellers. I got a question for Y'all.
I got me a .50 capper a few years back. Shot it with the Buffler Bullets and was puttin em in tight at 50 yards off-hand.
Got back from Iraq here awhile back and switched over to PRB.
Now she's hittin about four inches to the right. I crowded the sights over as far as I could but can't get it closer than three inches from the 10 ring even off a bench.
Is this due to the rate of twist? Am I gonna have to settle for the Buffler Bullets?

What make of rifle is it? Are both sights fixed type in dovetails? If so, and you need to move the POI to the left, you can drift the front sight to the right as well as the rear to the left. Might give you enough adjustment to get it lined up right.

Actually I've done moved the rear all the way to the left and bumped the front so far to the right that it looks just plumb goofy. That's how I got it shootin closer.
This is one of them Italian rigs. I can't think of the maker just now. It's out in the truck right now or I'd look and see. I know off the top of my head that it uses the same thread nipple as both my Pietta revolvers. Don't know if that helps any.
I'm planning on putting on some non-adjustable sights once I get this ball vs. bullet thing figured out.
I just don't like the looks or the fragility of adjustable sights.

If you have moved your front and rear sights so much, are you pounding too much on your ball? Look at your patches,see if there are ok, maybe blown out. Lastly, had the same problem,barrell was bent. :m2c:

If your shooting a cast ball make sure the spru is up when loading. You might want to try swagged round balls to see if the impact point is effected.

Try to find your patches. If they cut or torn along the rifling it would indicate the load is catching or creating uneven drag upon firing.

Check the end of the bore to see if the crown is damaged.
That could be upsetting the load on departureture. I once had to recrown a gun for just this issue.

Try an over powder wad before loading the PRB. You could be getting blow by. Try reducing and/or increasing your charge.
