Stressed or weathered would have been better terms to use in hindsight as I wanted to achieve a used look with a sheen.

Probably unorthodox to do, but I remembered some "art" I learned in bookcamp 30 years ago and tried some black and brown Kiwi shoe polish wax with some heavy buffing with a brush.

I got the effect I wanted but I still need to see how it holds up and takes mink oil to keep the leather soft.
Beautiful my friend!

Thanks for the tips and compliments on the bag. Unfortunately I took it to the range the other day to practice like I hunt and the strap tore off the bag.

I fixed it, but I think this bag will be relegated to the gun cabinet as a conversation piece, especially since the old man made it for me when I was a kid.

Time to learn a winter scratch build....

There's a product called "Snow Shield" , out there. It has the procedure on the can. Just like any grease , apply it , let it sit , then buff off w/a shoe brush. Leather should be stained to taste before application. Shines like you wanted , but doesn't stain leather. Used it for yrs. , since 1950's.
