I made a concrete top and "accidentally" purchased too many end blocks and cap blocks so I could build a permanent bench. I was wanting the permanent bench between the two garage doors on a section of existing concrete so I didnt have to maintain or cut weeds around the bench. Now I'm second guessing myself thinking a portable bench may be better suited to that location. The portable bench would be made from an old industrial singer sewing machine base, with height adjusting solid rubber tires from a push lawn mower. I could easily move the portable bench in the garage out of the weather as needed. I just a threw the laminate header material on the base so you could get an idea of the bench, I will likely make a better top if I decide to go that route.

This past March a friend came down from up north - "snowbird" he & his brother came over to help me build this permanent shooting bench on my 400yd backyard range. For the previous few yrs I've just had 2 steel saw horses with that concrete AC pad you see now on the ground to put the folding metal chair on. Before, I had a pallet with plywood to set the chair on. The redneck hucklebuck set up served its purpose, but this is solid. Its built on old oak 4x4's that had to be drilled thru bc it was so hard I was snapping lag bolts off. Its set 2' in the ground with a dry concrete pack. Still, its nuthin " fancy " but its a dang nice solid shooting bench that will hold up for a good while & didn't cost me much to build using materials piled up around here. My wooden framed target stands are all rotted & fallen down after only 3 yrs. I got some steel to weld up some new 30"x30" frames.
