Couple of my bags
My advice to a new shooter is buy a el cheapo haversack
Stick everything you think you need in the bag and go shooting
Take it on a dozen trips and take out what you didnt use and get a bag to carry what you need
As to possibles vs shooting, many say possibles bag as it’s gotten common. But it’s like calling one’s rifle or fowling gun a musket.
It’s your bag so call it what you want.
Shooting pouch or shooting bag was what they called it then
Just as a note, most of us like Allen Ekrit works, bot he often calls any shoulder arm of the time a rifle. In spite of wrong terminology we often recommend his books at good introductions to frontier history.View attachment 374763View attachment 374764

Yup, I can't count how many times at public ranges some Woofo came by and said "Nice musket, pal".

Yup, all muzzleloaders are 'Muskets', just like the one Daniel Boone shoots...because that is what has become 'common', they are all 'Muskets'....well, that is what the Woofos say
:dunno:

Nothing about this is HC, unless completely by accident. I just made something that looks traditional, but got creative.
My bag has a small patch knife and short starter attached to the strap, the woven part is stolen from a purse my wife was throwing away 😁
Left to right is pliers, thread adapter, ramrod extension, knapping hammer, brush, pick, primer, oiler with bear oil, extra patch material, tin with cut and lubed patches, squeeze bottle with my liquid lube, eyeglass spritzer. The eyeglass spritzer is water, denatured alcohol, and a drop of dawn. It works good for glasses, cleaning the schmoo off the pan and frizzen, and is great for a wet patch after a lot of shots and I get the dreaded crud ring.. The rest is spare patches, wallet w/ flints, screwdriver, worm, puller, earplugs, gloves, and rag.
The pouch is soft sheep leather, it has an upper inner pocket perfect for keeping balls and the patch tin, the deeper pocket holds all the other crap. There is a pocket on the back that I keep the brush/pick/hammer to be close at hand. I can barely fit a copper lead ladle and bag mold, but leave them out on most occasions. Most of the frequently used tools are dummy corded, because I'm a dummy. The horn has a measure dummy corded to it.

This setup is ok, I think I want to make a newer bag though. One that is just a bit deeper, I had the balls dump out once when I bent over to pick something off the ground. I also want to cone my muzzle so I can drop the short starter, in hind sight I don't like all the junk on the strap. I think I'm ok with the knife there, but I'm also tempted to sew a sheath to the bag
