This is my first try at pouring a pewter nose cap. All was going well until finish filing and I exposed some wood under an area that got too thin. Is there a way to make this look right without doing it over and potentially ruining my stock?

IF and I repeat IF you are handy with a pencil style soldering iron.. you can 'sometimes' repair a pewter ****oo by flowing a bit
into the void. but you have to be very careful you don't overheat things and cause more problems!!!
I think, the conventional theory, would be to melt it off and repour the whole thing.. take just a bit more meat off the underlying wood
and then you'll have a better chance at getting it to where you want it..

Do again, the second time will be much easier.
You don't have to remove the whole nose cap, just gouge out the thin area and and repour it. It will be invisible. Pewter is pretty forgiving when it comes to fixing screw ups. I did the exact same thing on the first one I poured.

. The patch job worked out well. A lot better than melting it off and remaking the form.

It wasn't a mistake! It was a learning experience.
Definitely a learning experience! I will spend a lot more time on the form next time.

Interesting. I've never poured a nose cap before. Its the main reason I've never started a Vincent I'd love to build.
Now I feel a little bolder.
