I shoot a lot more smokeless than BP.
I have enough BP on hand to last another 3 or 4 years.
At sixty years old, if I buy a 25lb case, that will be too much, and I'll die with unused cans of powder.
If I don't do anything now, I will wait untill I run out, and then have the problem of finding BP by the pound, plus the price will probably stop my heart.
Do I buy now, or later?

Graf & Sons in Missouri sells BP by the can...I think they have a 4 can minimun...you could order however many you thought you needed...cost per can would be higher with the shipping and hazmat fee spread across a few cans.

Or...J&J Pyrotechnics - Moscow, PA - delivers a whole case of Goex for only $220 ($8.80/can)...maybe another shooter in your area could split the case with you.

I'm 58 with a 4 year old quadruple bypass, and have 1.5 cases of Goex...if I continue to shoot like I do, I'll use about 6-7 cans / year...we'll just have to see

What the heck is all this Gloom & Doom???? Hey, I'll be 67 in about 20 days. I had triple by passes in August of 1983. Two of them are still working after all these years. I'm not anywhere near ready to start thinking about when my sting is going to run out! Both of you guys might live 20 or 30 more years. Heck Nvbirdman, if you kick the bucket before you use up all your black powder just "will it" to me. I'm planning on being around for a long time yet! :)

Well, there's your problem right there. It's known fact that shooting black powder adds years to your life expectancy. ::

Seriously, I'd wait until you run low on BP and make the decision then. The suggestion to split a case with a friend (or two) is a great idea. I do it often.

Birdman, If that's all you've got to worry about, you'll
probably live to a 100 and have time to shoot all the black you can get your hands on. ::

NV, you ain't a goin to die, Stack up that powder! I'm 66 and keep stackin up lead. If I did die, so what, I sure don't want to run out of lead first. That would be worse then the big one! :: ::

I do like that thought. Hope it's well understood by all my Health Care providers.

I'm 66 years old and took Roundball's advice and ordered a case of Goex from J&J Pyrotechnics this morning - best price I've found. Thanks Roundball!! Seems as though there are quite a few if us that are rather "long-of-the-tooth" Maybe we should have our own category e.g. Ye Olde Geezers. We could have annual meeting - say at the NMLRA spring shoot. I suggest we show wearing shades and striped canes - I bet we'd have the firing line to ourselves :shocking:

BTW, they'll mix granulations in the same case...if you use 4F, hope you thought about making one can to be 4F.

Squirejohn...Guess I'm in the same boat as far needing powder. You've got me by couple years in the age though. Real Black is getting harder, and harder to find locally. I didn't want to take the plunge on a full case by myself but it is truly the only way to go. On a good day at the range, I can easily do in a can by myself. Gets darn expensive at about $19 a pop.

OK, I put toothmarks in the roundball, and ordered a case from Maine Powderhouse ($219 delivered).
If I die with leftover powder I won't be complaining anyway.
Squirejohn, you suggested a meeting of Ye Olde Geezers in the spring. Trouble is, some of us old geezers don't have much spring left. Now in the fall would be a different story. The older I get, the easier it is to fall asleep. Sometimes even when I'm typing a mezzzzzzzziage.
