Powder Horn photos

I got to looking at my old horn, it looks "little or small" compared to some I've seen.What size/ length do you guys use?

12-16" finished. Depends on what the customer wants.

Here a pic of a couple of my powder horns. Both are Bison, smaller one is my priming horn. Plugs were made from deer antler to resemble beaver tail. Horns w

ere made and completed just as I requested many yrs ago by my late friend and fellow shooter, Carl Space, from Onaway, Mi.

This is the one and only powder horn I made in 1974. I hesitate to post this with all the quality powder horns displayed above, but here goes...

Somewhere back in this thread I asked about a source for historical maps that could be used for scrimshawing on horns. In case someone else has the same interest, I found this book online. It goes from 1612 Virginia to 1861 somewhere.

Quite a bit … but his horns are worth every cent and more. He is an artist of unusual ability. You can buy mine for .. uh ...maybe $500 ...nah!

In 1981, I was not interested in beauty .. just a small day horn. This one is 7 1/2" long. Note the date and the 'unique' way of fastening the strap. Hmmm? I recently saw an original from early 1800s using the same attachment method. I guess our new ideas are very old Polecat

I'm not near the artisan some of you are but with the help of Ames I'm working on this small day horn for a friends grandson. I'll be making a shooting bag to go with this horn and will post my progress.
