Powder horn strap was the weave correct for the late 1700s to early 1800s been looking at a kit from powder horns and more and just figuring out what straps I need
 
Inkle (ribbon) weaving is more modern. But it is identical to back-strap loom work or even a "regular" floor loom that was set to do one or multiple straps at once.

As Necchi said - hand weaving has been around since we domesticated sheep.

Certain patterns? That requires more research.
