Goex: $16/lb
Schuetzen: $16/lb
Swiss: $24/lb

One doesn't want to consider his cost per shot anymore with lead, ticking , powder and cap (if ya use them) prices.

Where's all this leading? :shake:

Got a 25lb case of Goex delivered to my front porch 3 weeks ago for $14.49/can

Around here, in the Great White North, there is only one outfit that carries real BP within reasonable driving distance of my home and it is 75 minutes away (on a good day). Cost is $27.95 CDN per pound; although it might go down, now that Goex has resumed production.

We also have very restrictive legal storage limitations. So, bulk purchases are not an option.

So whenever I can, I use Pyrodex P, which is cheaper and more readily available.

To China! and it's not funny!

You know, I remember paying $10.00 a pound retail price back in 1978 and thought that was real high at the time for the market. So I would not say that todays prices are outta whack. Stagnant wages since the '90s is what's outta whack with increased production costs mainly due to rising fuel prices. Just wait till all 2 billion Chinese are driving cars :shocked2: Best we can do is try to arrange bulk buys with others to keep expenses down.

It's $24.95 a can for Goex in Ocala Florida. :cursing:

I've found a solution, just can't say or put it on here.

It is the same here in Spokane ($ 25.00). I bought some in the 1990s for less than $10.00 a can. Caps are about $6.00 here and lead 45 balls are $15.00. It is getting close to $.50 a shot to shoot, but I cast the balls and cut my own patches so it is a little less.

I blame us (muzzleloader people) for the lack of available real BP by any maker. It's the law of supply and demand. If we stopped buying synthetic powder merchants desperate to sell stuff would start ordering and stocking real BP and manufactures would ramp up production to meet demand.

Depending on your circumstances, buying in bulk may be the way to go. My shooting partner and I just bought 25lb. of Goex fff for $295 from Back Creek Gun Shop in Va. For us its easy to stop in and pick up the powder, saving the various fees. We also buy musket caps from J. Venkoske (proprieter) in sleves of 1000. We have sources for soft lead and can usually get it in the $1.00-1.50/lb price range, once again in bulk lots.

I feel that it would pay to belong to a club and do a group purchase. This may not be practical for you lone wolves and occasional shooters out there. Just a thought! Cheers! Bob E

I make the trip out to Back Creek Gunshop a couple times per year. I try to go when the NSSA meets are in order to check that out too. I've had a great experience out there every time.

Goex is $US46 per lb here in New Zealand! Even the locally made product is $US38 for 500g which is close to a lb. :rotf:

seems not to long from now we'll all be going the route that Mr Claude says we can't talk about on here.

Some of the reason that Pyrodex is more available than Black Powder IS the law.
Black Powder is an EXPLOSIVE,way different HazMat requirements, local laws/rules as far as amount/storage.Get a copy of the Haz Mat Rules for bulk storage. .
Where as Pyrodex is a PROPELLANT!!!!!! totally different HazMat/storage/local rules.
Go to your local Gun Shop/Shooting Supplier,,lots of Pyrodex on the shelf compared to Black Powder,,the BP is out back, away from humans in a explosion proof building made of reinforced concret, rebar and a roof designed to blow up and away to redirect the blast,if a certain amount is kept in it.
Ill shoot till it gets to expensive,,then eat less, shoot less or figure out how they did it in the "old" days,,,during my childhood,,ha ha ha ha ha. Lead is in the ground and BP is in your basic Chemisty book!!!!
Remember: Work like you dont need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like you do when nobody is watching.

i am lucky i live about a half hour from a dealer i get it in 25 lb. bags. while filling one of my cans the other day i found a price sticker on it 4.99.
