Does anyone here use Hodgdon Triple 7 black powder for their cap and ball CW revolvers or do you go with Goex both ffg for muskets and fffg for revolvers? If so, why or why not. Thank you.

I've used it in my cap and ball revolvers when shooting Classic Cowboy in SASS events. Works fine.

It works great in ROA and Pietta 1858. Also in the .32 .36 .50 .54 .58 20GA and 12ga. Also use it over 10 gr 3f in my flinter. I use it as its readily available, reliable and cleans up easy.

So far my favorite is 2F T7 in my revolvers. Its been the most accurate and most consistant of the substitutes ive tried.

So far i find volume to volume the T7 has a bit more pop then goex

I normally use an empty .40 case with 3F and a .45acp for the 2F i figure 20g is what i get from the .40 and 26 from the .45

Have used it in mine with no problems at all. Only issue with mine is the musket caps I have suc and ignition is not reliable. I may see if Goex cures it or will have to get another can of caps.

I use BP and Pyrodex extensively in revolver, pistol and rifle. I got some 777 on sale in a damaged can. It was cheap enough to make it worth buying; otherwise, BP and Pyrodex are cheaper.

777 works in everything, but not nearly as well as other powders. I'd use it if it were all that was available. Especially in my revolvers, I found it hard to work up an accurate load. It seems to work well, but over a very narrow weight range. While I can use the same volume measures between Pyrodex and BP, and accuracy is maintained over a 5 grain or more range (for rifles), 777 requires work up to determine its' best weight for accuracy, and it varies enough from my BP and Pyrodex loads that I'll maybe someday work more with it and make some measures just for its' use. Meanwhile, it will sit in the back of the powder magazine until the day comes where I actually need to use it.

Thank you gentlemen, now what about using T7(2F) in my Enfield musket? Thanks in advance.

If you want to talk a bout rifled muskets, I don't think the Handgun forum is the place to do it.

Maybe you should post your question in the Percussion Rifle area? :)

Yes sir, I am aware of this placement. I originally put this question in the Percussion rifled site and was moved to the handgun section I believe simply because I had questions about "both" cap and ball revolvers as well as muskets. I do appreciate your advice and will repost in the rifled musket section. Thank you
sincerely

I should buy a new can of pyrodex and try it again.

The stuff i have has been sitting a while and i think its gone a little south to give it a fair test. It was accurate what i shot though.

T7 seems finiky on how its packed and i think thats why 2F maybe works best for me as does using filler. 3F doesnt seem to be as forgiving when packed as the 2F does.

I made a little stop for my remington so that all the load were packed the same and it helped

Thank you all for the valuable information everyone provided here. I did just find and ordered a couple of pounds of Goex 2f and 3f. Sincere thanks to all.

a buddy gave me a 2/3 full can of ANCIENT Pyrodex P. Works flawlessly but did have a half dollar size "clump" which I broke up and shot no problem.

Container may be valuable its so old, older than I ever saw and I started in 1972
