What do you fellers consider comparing FF to 777?

A fella told me that I should bring 777 instead of real blackpowder to a elk hunt because it was more dependable and less susceptiable (sp on purpose who makes words like this) to moisture.

FINALLY....I get a chance to use an icon I've never used:

:bull: is my reaction to the comment made by that fella.

As others will chime in, BP is without a doubt the fastest, most reliable muzzleloading black powder there is.

BP residue after the shot draws moisture from the air of course, but not fresh charges of black powder waiting to be used.

(PS: Any black powder will do...as long as it's Goex ::)

I feel the biggest reason to use an alternate to BP is that it can be bought at Walmart. Why can it be sold at Walmart? Because it takes double the heat to light it off and that makes BP illegal to sell or tougher to sell in that kind of store. That is why all these folks are asking questions all the time about 209 primers, etc. It only stands to reason that if a powder takes 1/2 the temp. to light, is probably more reliable, all things being equal.(dry, not damp or oil soaked bore and with a clear flash channel). Goex so Good, but Swiss is Sweeter.

:imo: I would take Goex FFFg over Triple Se7en powder any day. The fact that it is not as clean burning is not an issue. I am only going to shoot once if everything works the way it should. Also Black Powder is the best of all propellants I have found when it comes to wet weather or moist hunting conditions.

The problem is, Black Powder is harder to obtain is all. Open a fresh can, test your rifle, make sure it shoots great, use powder from that same can in your hunt, and have a great time.....

Why can it be sold at Walmart?
Some stores don't sell GOEX because of some BTAF bs. One word' EXPLOSIVES" look on the front of the can. They can sell all modern powder they want to. This was told to me by a BTAF bp shooter. Pyrodex doesn't say that. I used to carry GOEX and sell in our trade tent at rendezvous, but he told me that my FFL license was only good at our store at home :redthumb:

Blackpowder is the "perfect powder" fer hunt'n,.... everthin else is "high priced artifical manure"!! :imo: :m2c: ::

Thets why we call our muzzleloaders "blackpowder rifles", instead of,..... "Subsitute powder rifles"!!  :shocking: :p

My choice of propellant is Goex BP everytime.
Unless swiss is avaliable.at the same price as Goex. :haha:

I say this no matter if it is being shot in a flinter, cap. or 209 primeing system.

Goex is not sold in most places due to the fact that it must be stored in an approved magazine by the federal fire arms lic. people and the cost for such is beyond the justification in profit made by selling Goex.

What most people don't know is that if you have a FFL your place of business and your home is subject to search whit out notice by the FEDS 24/7. Even if the place of business isn't in your home. One more way of the Govn't haveing the control they want.

For me its always goex BP. Its sad the feds think they have to control so much...
I think we were ALL born too late. How great it would have been to have "the great American West" to "tame". No cops, taxes, etc

These ersatz powders are pushed by venders because of the nutty laws re the real stuff its called make-a-buck.Any of the available real stuff is better than the substitutes.I like Swiss the best, the price kind of jars me though.I use Scheutzen most of the time, but I suppose that will go out of sight with the value of the Euro.Goex will have to do even though I got a bad batch a couple of years ago.

Woodhick,

SWISS ? ? Powder... Hmm....

Is it made by blonde big eye'd womens' :master: ? ?

If so I cain't wait to see there poster ad.

Beater of Bushes,

Our Senior Senator Chucky "Cheese" Schumer has gone on record as wanting to make it all but impossible to legally sell, buy or possess black powder to enhance "Homeland Security". Notice how one of the most liberal Senators in the country suddenly likes Homeland Security when he can use it to bludgeon legitimate sport shooters.

So vote the A**holes out of office. That's all it would take. But too many people stay home and don't vote. We could get rid of Chucky, Teddy, Hilly, Diane, and all the rest if all the gun owners would unite and VOTE. :imo:

Rebel,

WHY do you think they fear the RKBA so much? Many assume they're stupid, but I am certain that they know the Founders put it there as a "nuclear option" to line the lying vermin against a wall if they got to far out of line.

Please DO NOT GET ME GOING ON THIS SUBJECT!!!! :curse:

In Aus there is only a very small number of politicians in either of the main 2 political parties (state & federal) that are NOT anti firearm, therefore it doesn't matter which party is in power; they both have the same agenda!!!

The Independants are just as bad; quite often they have to hook up with either of the majors, and then DEALS have to be done!!! :curse:

IMHO politicians are worthless bags of S***!!! :curse: They would not know how to tell the truth even if their lives depended on it!, but we do have to refer to them as the HONOURABLE MINISTER!!! :curse:
Jim.

PS I think I should now take my medication!!

Black powder all the way, Goex or Swiss, easier ignition, more consistency between like loads, and you just can't beat that beautiful aroma when you touch off a shot.

:bull:

It is indeed strange for someone to make such a statement. Yes, all things being equal, black powder will light off when the others won't.

For hunting, where it would be unusual to ever fire three shots, the whole fouling issue is not a...issue.

Indeed Swiss powder is good stuff, it burns almost as clean as 777, and is just as powerful. In two of my firearms, Swiss reduces group size compared to 777, and in my 1861, switching to Goex from 777 shrank group size DRAMATICALLY.

And yes, I got a miss-fire in my 1861 once with 777, switched to Goex and need I say it has not miss-fired since?

But, people will say the strangest things. Just smile and nod!

Know why they call it "Triple 7"? That's the number of times it takes to make the damn thing go off! :haha: :haha: :haha:

That stuff sucks! :: :: ::
