I haven't shot my BP firearms in a while, well, a long while. I was looking around for some powder but all that I could find was Pyrodex (This is Connecticut). I was wondering, can one still get the real stuff? Where?
Assuming you just want a pound or two, I won't give you the standard answer we sometimes see here which is "just order $200+ dollars worth from xxxyyyzzz. They deliver!
Of course, if you do want to buy large quanities, check out the Accessories Forum area. There are a lot of posts about where to buy from.
If you can't find a post easily, use the Search key at the top of the page your reading.
Set the DATE RANGE for Before 1 week, put "powder+buy" in the KEY WORD window and press "SUBMIT". You will probably get a few thousand hits.
If you own a precussion gun, the Pyrodex will work OK.
If you own a Flintlock, or just don't want to use the Pyrodex, my suggestion would be for you to call one of the nice people who are heading up some of the Black Powder muzzleloading shoots in Connecticut.
In the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association magazine they list three shoots being held in Connecticut this month. The responcible persons envolved are:
Edmund Leete, Lebanon, Ct. phone 860-228-0855
Nile Barrett, Westbrook, Ct. phone 860-399-7294
Ed Spataro, Wolcott, Ct. phone 203-879-1068
Hopefully one of them is in your neck of the woods, and will be able to help you find a source.
