I regret to say I'm unsure of the wood this is, but I think it might be beech or a lower grade maple? Leaning towards beech, but I am unsure. Could be butternut as per suggestions by other forum memebers below. At any rate, this is a stout halfstock ready to be built into a gun. Butt is just a hair under 2 inch wide, overall length is about 33 1/2", barrel channel is 13/16" by 17". Drilled for ramrod already too, 5/16" ramrod channel. Cheekpiece has been started.
