Was reading the "Welcome" forum and there was some discussion regarding fancy "wall flower" guns vs plain "working guns". So what constitutes a "working gun" :: :: ::

I suppose a working gun might be something like this:

Note, there are almost no inlays etc on this gun.

A "closet queen" could look like this:

It's a tad fancier, you might say.

I could have stolen several pictures posted in the Photo Forum area that make this rifle look plain, but as I built both of these, I figured I could post it.

Yes, a lot of inlays don't make it "hunt" better but I'll be the first to say, for a rifle to shoot accuratly, it doesn't have to be plain.
I shoot all of my guns, both plain and fancy on a regular basis. They all work great.

If a gun is well built out of the best materials available, it will "hunt" very well, whether it is Plain or Fancy. :)

DAng Zonie! What have I told you about springing them things on me with no warning. I got spots before my eyes so that I can't see to get my finger on the right keys!

A working gun is one that you take out hunting even when it is raining. Either of Zonie's above could be working guns, though neither is a plain Jane, and the latter is more like a disco ball than a longrifle.

All of my guns are working guns. If they are delicate they are not a viable weapon or hunting tool, they are an ornament. I can't afford that kind of interior decorations.

That's why I generally have one good rifle (or fusil), and that's what I use all the time. You wouldn't leave your best girl home on Saturday night, wouldja?
