Price on a Navy Arms Buffalo Hunter .58

I've had my eye on a Buffalo Hunter .58 caliber rifle that is listed on gun broker. I like how it has a short barrel held on with a wedge pin similar to my Hawken rifles allowing the barrel to be easily taken off the stock for cleaning. I much prefer the looks of this Buffalo Hunter rifle over the full length 2 or 3 band Zouave rifles. Starting bid is $575 and buy it now price is $650. Appears to be in very condition and the patch box is engraved. I don't have much knowledge of this particular rifle but it is appealing to me and a having a large bore .58 to hunt with or just shoot steel targets with on occasion might be where I'm headed with my black powder collection as I already have two Hawken rifles and a trapper pistol. Yes it has a wedge but you will have to remove the tang bolt if you want to take it down every time for cleaning. And, just me personally, that’s just a mite spendy for it.

I'd want to see the bore. I had one that looked excellent on the exterior but was pitted in the bore. It shot reasonably well but I sold it after getting their (Navy Arms) "Hawken" Hunter. Which has the same length but octagon , much heavier barrel. The Hawken has the same three groove rifling but mine is noticeably choked at the muzzle and is really accurate with a 620 grain Maxi.
It is grim to shoot though with the 150 grain 2 F Goex charge it likes!

$400-$500 would be more realistic. I had one, but the stock was too straight for me to be comfortable shooting it.

The Buffalo Hunter doesn’t have the best sights…it’s fairly accurate, but you’ll want to keep shots inside of 80 yrds, maybe less. I had one that I loaned to a friend when we would hunt after school, as kids. The gun was on the heavy side, for its size. And I was just much more accurate with my CVA Mountain Rifle.

With the price range you are quoting…there are better choices.

When I got into going to the rendezvous, aside from the abundance of CVAs and Thompson Centers, these are the types of guns that caught my eyes…and made my young mind drool.

The Buffalo Hunter does not have a hooked breech. Looks like the one on GunJoker has had the sights upgraded, but I can't tell for sure. Patch box stampings are aftermarket. It's a nice example but, like everything on GunJoker, is overpriced. Was one here for sale just a few weeks ago & they come up for sale fairly often. I'd wait on the one on GunJoker & see what happens. My bet is it will either be withdrawn after no bids or will be relisted over & over. Make the buyer an offer & see what happens. $500 shipped would be a top price for me. Here's mine after a restoration.

Have one. Fun gun. That price is more than double whet I paid for mine, but mine needed a little work. It's not a copy of anything, more of an adaptation of a military rifle by Val Forget who shot African critters. 80 yard deer gun for me.

I have hit 6" hanging tiles with a full size Zouave and with a 24" Parker-Hale musketoon at 100 yards. Don't see why a Buffalo Hunter couldn't take a deer at 100 yards, if the shooter does his/her part.

a word from the wise be careful and get all the pics you can with the lock off as well i bought 2 a few years ago both had serious issues cracked stock frozen nipple the 2 worst purches to date. i paid 600 and 675 id hold off save a little money and get the thompson center big boar 58s after getting ripped off that is exactly what i did
